Artist Statement

I incorporate oceanic elements into my work. My work consist beauty that can be found in the deep blue that makes the ocean a worldly treasure. It’s also a representation of beauty, no matter what the result. There is always value found in it. I’ve always been fascinated by the mysticism of the ocean.

I’m on a quest to imagine and create based on life within the water. My work is an ongoing river of what makes the sea unique. Clay when hardened is the body of the piece when reacting with fire over 1000 degrees. Also sand and water are used to make my work become a reality. The Raw earth materials are used to represent the gift that nature has given us.

Ceramic/pottery can be the perfect representation of beauty in imperfection. Many errors and uncertainties occur with the process of ceramics such as cracking, for example when drying fast. If the piece tends to crack or break, I tend to have it intentionally, so it captures the aspect of being broken but resembling something still being unique by the piece being glossy and shiny resembling something broken but still shining bright like gold found beneath the deep blue.

Incorporating the organic matter and earthy materials that’s been around for so many years tells the unique capabilities with ceramics as something old that’s imperfect can become something greater. Rough textures/surfaces and earthy tones I incorporate symbolizes ooh how something old and earthy can be unique by representing a curtain symbol.
